Laser Profiling

When video inspection alone can’t reliably detect deflection, wall loss, or diameter changes, laser profiling provides the accuracy needed to assess your pipe’s condition. While the human eye can observe differences, laser technology offers precise measurements of geometric deformations and structural anomalies.

Our laser profiling uses a 2D laser to project a light ring inside the pipe, with a CCTV camera capturing the laser image. Specialized software processes these images to create detailed graphs and color-coded flat representations of the pipe’s interior, achieving measurement tolerances as fine as 0.08 inches—even in large-diameter pipes.

With laser profiling, we can accurately measure:

• Cracks or breaks causing displacement
• Deflection or loss of ovality
• Wall loss or gain and remaining wall thickness
• The diameter of liners or tools that can safely pass through

Our analysis compares data to the pipe’s nominal interior diameter, highlighting even subtle radius changes. This level of detail helps determine whether enough pipe wall remains for rehabilitation and which repair method is most cost-effective—often allowing for thinner, more economical liners when structural integrity is intact.

Additionally, Time Lapse Patterning enables us to compare current and past inspections to calculate the rate of deterioration, providing valuable insights for proactive maintenance planning.
